Pennsylvania exit poll results

Full coverage of the US elections 2008Here are the Pennsylvania exit polls, which, as usual, have leaked early. They come with the customary caveat that exit polls are often wrong. If they’d been right on Super Tuesday then Barack Obama would have been home and dry by now. And if they’d been right in 2004 then President John F. Kerry would currently be in the White House.

But these results fuel much food for thought and could signal a relatively good night for Obama. I just spoke to Terry McAuliffe, Clinton campaign chairman, in the lobby of the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia, and he was spinning away saying that “a win is a win”. But a four-point win by Clinton could well sow the seeds of her exit from this race. So here are the exit poll details I have:

Overall: Hillary Clinton 52 per cent Barack Obama 48 per cent.
